Nolla is a Belgian company focused on creating eco-friendly, plastic-free personal care products like natural deodorants, solid soaps, and shampoos. Their mission is to reduce plastic usage in bathrooms, using sustainable packaging and high-quality ingredients. Nolla Care products are designed to be effective and cater to various skin types while promoting a greener lifestyle. The name “Nolla,” meaning “zero” in Finnish, symbolises their goal of eliminating plastic waste in personal care.

After launching the brand a few years ago with his own design, Gauthier, the founder of Nolla, approached DesignRepublic with a clear and ambitious brief: “I want a radical redesign, keeping only the name ‘Nolla’.” He envisioned a bold and striking look that would break away from conventional design standards in the industry. Gauthier also wanted the branding to be versatile, suitable for both online and in-store sales, and adaptable across various products.

Nolla Care Green

DesignRepublic chose to center Nolla’s branding around the letter ‘O’, which not only emphasizes the brand’s name but also symbolizes ‘zero’—representing zero plastic waste. This innovative approach served as the foundation for all graphical and core branding elements.

To make Nolla stand out in a crowded market, DesignRepublic departed from the typical color schemes associated with eco-friendly cosmetics, which often feature pastels, beiges, and earthy tones. Instead, they introduced a vibrant and bold color palette with bright blues, oranges, greens, and browns. This strategic choice ensures that Nolla products catch the eye on store shelves and command attention in social media posts, setting the brand apart with a lively, dynamic presence.

DesignRepublic’s unique design for Nolla caught the attention of the Pentawards jury, earning a Silver Pentaward in 2024 for Sustainable Design. This recognition celebrated the bold and creative approach that stood out from traditional eco-friendly branding. By centering the design around the letter ‘O’—symbolizing zero plastic waste—and using vibrant, eye-catching colors, DesignRepublic successfully captured Nolla’s mission and made it memorable.

The award highlights how thoughtful, unconventional design can make sustainable products shine.
